Artful Reading Club - March 2013

This month I chose to read The Beach House by Jane Green.

I actually picked up this book to read in December while I was vacationing in Daytona Beach, Florida.   I did not have time to read on that trip and set the book aside.  So while we are having cold weather it sounded like a good time to read about the beach.

I had a very hard time reading this book.  It did not catch my interest.  It was very easy for me to read a chapter and put this book down for days at a time.  There were a lot of characters in this book and   eventually they all had a connection at this beach house.  I found the second half of the book held my interest more than the first half but I would not recommend reading the book.  There are too many books to read so I would pass on reading this one.

Artwork collage:

I started with a 6x6 background paper, used torn images from magazine, did some inking and stamping and decided to put book title on the page.

  1. It was really obvious you didn't care for the book, since I got no sense of what it was about other than a house on a beach. However, I fell in love with your collage. It was simply the perfect art, especially since I'm so fond of collage. Even an unloved book can be inspiring, as you have proven.

  2. Oh, a little house at the beach could be wonderful even while the weather is still freezing! Too bad the read wasn't that wonderful...
I really like your collage. It makes me long for warm summer days! ♥

  3. I love your collage and the way you have married torn elements into a lovely meaningful whole that brings summer days to mind. I'd love to holiday there.
Very useful book review - it's always good to know which books to steer clear of. At least you didn't waste any precious holiday time on it.

  7. A book with too many characters is difficult for me...I spend time trying to figure out who's who and lose my interest...however...your collage so accurately depicts 'The Beach House'...great!

  10. Brilliant collage, full of colour and movement. Shame the book was not up to much but you made up for it with your lovely artwork. Better luck next month.

  11. Books that are put down and left for days at a time are a real let down. Even though your book was not brilliant your collage inspired by it looks great!
